At the helm of RVA's healthcare community are two dynamic female CEOs: Leigh Sewell of Bon Secours Meorial Regional Medical Center and Deborah Davis of VCU Health System. Join us as Tracy Kemp Stallings of VCU College of Health Professions moderates a discussion of thier innovative approaches to leadership as part of our Real Conversation series. This enriching evening will spark inspiration for field-tested methodologies that you can apply in your daily work from two of Richmond's leaders in healthcare.

Deborah Davis

Deborah Davis has more than 40 years’ experience in the healthcare industry, and joined the VCU Health System in 2007 after serving as the president of Pitt County Memorial Hospital (now Vidant Medical Center) in North Carolina. She serves on the Vizient Board of Directors, on the Advisory Committee of the Central Virginia Healthcare Executive Group, and as a Preceptor for Administrative Residency for the MHA Program at VCU. She also currently serves on the boards of directors for the Valentine Richmond History Center, the American Heart Association of Metro Richmond and ChamberRVA, and as a member of the Children’s Hospital Foundation. Additionally, she serves on the East Carolina University/BB&T Center for Leadership Board of Directors, was a founding member of the East Carolina University Women’s Roundtable Board of Directors and was appointed in July 2011 to the Board of Trustees for East Carolina University. Previously, Deborah has served on various American College of Healthcare Executives committees and as a Regent-at-Large. In addition, she has served on the American Hospital Association Committee on Health Professions and on the University HealthSystem Consortium Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Deborah has also been very active in the Council of Teaching Hospitals and the Association of American Medical Colleges, serving previously as a COTH Administrative Board member, a COTH representative to the AAMC Assembly and as the COTH representative to the AAMC Group on Diversity and Inclusion. She is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. 



Leigh Sewell
CEO, Bon Secours' Memorial Regional Medical Center, Richmond Community Hospital and Memorial College of Nursing


Leigh Sewell serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Bon Secours’ Memorial Regional Medical Center, Richmond Community Hospital and Memorial College of Nursing.  As CEO, Leigh is responsible for the leadership and daily operations of these three entities.    The 224-bed acute-care Memorial Regional Medical Center is one of the top 50 hospitals in the nation, now celebrating 20 years of serving the residents of Hanover and Henrico counties and Virginia’s Northern Neck. The 43-acre campus includes the Hanover Medical Park and the future home of the Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing.  Richmond Community Hospital, 104-bed facility, offers medical, surgical and behavioral health services in the city of Richmond. The facility includes a medical office building and an outpatient infusion center, and celebrates over 100 years of service to the community. Bon Secours Sarah Garland Jones Center for Healthy Living is part of the hospital’s campus.
 
Leigh has been with Bon Secours for 12 years and prior to her current role, Leigh served as senior vice president of strategic operations for Bon Secours Virginia, leading business development and growth, strategic communications and the project management office.  Prior to joining Bon Secours, Leigh spent 9 years at Circuit City in leadership roles in Accounting.   
 
Leigh earned her Master of Science in Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and her Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.
 
She is a passionate advocate for all children with disabilities, and helped develop the concept for Richmond Hope Therapy Center, the first intensive therapy clinic in Virginia, now a part of Bon Secours. She current serves on the board of the March of Dimes, which funds research to improve diagnoses, protocols, education and treatment for premature births and served as the 2014 Richmond March for Babies Chair and Ambassador Mom.  Leigh is the former board chair for Sportable, a nonprofit that helps athletes with physical and visual disabilities achieve goals through sports. She has also served as a board member of Chamber RVA and Junior Achievement.
 
Leigh has been recognized as one of Style Weekly’s “Top 40 Under 40,” and is a graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond.  She is currently serving as the 2019 Go Red Chair for the American Heart Association in Richmond.
